    Choosing and Deciding What to Grow

    Contrary to what many people think, choosing the right plant or flower to grow is one of the hardest things to tackle in flower gardening. This is basically for the reason that there are a lot of flowers to choose from, plus the fact that each flower has its own characteristics and potentials that also need to be considered carefully to make sure that what you are doing meets the survival requirements of your flowers. So with lots of options available out there, it is best to limit yourself only to a handful of flower choices.

    It is also here where the importance of choosing the right color of flowers comes in. So to begin, choose flowers depending on the colors you like. Perhaps the best way to do your selection is to walk on your neighborhoods and see what your neighborhoods are growing successfully. This is more valuable than basing your decision on a photograph from a magazine. There is even a chance that your neighbors will give you a division of what they have in their gardens.

    Another good idea is to walk around a couple of gardens near you and read the labels of each plant grown there. Try to combine some plants that attract you most until you’ve found the right choices. Considering three to five flowers is not a bad pick.

    However, when selecting for the right choices, it is important to make sure that the flowers you are considering have the same growing requirements. Make sure that they will thrive in the flower bed you’ve prepared for them. And, when thinking about the growing requirements, consider the sun exposure, including the water and the soil pH they require. It is even best to make sure that none of the flowers you’ve selected are going to demand more care than what you can provide them.

    To make yourself not to be too loaded with a number of beautiful flowers, keep the variety of your plants limited. Most expert gardeners often recommend having a composition of flowers with less variety than to have one of a certain variety and one of the other.

    To give you some ideas about some of the easy to grow flowers, I have mentioned below some of the best picks. Note that these flowers are all classified as annuals and they tend to grow in flower beds beautifully.

    Sunflowers – I bet many of you are familiar with sunflower. Well, sunflowers bloom in almost all shapes, sizes and colors. They can easily be grown from seeds, and what makes them perfect is that they can be grown even by young children. By far, the most popular variety of sunflower is that of a giant size which stands ten foot tall. There are also others that stand great and fit well to the size of your garden.

    Marigolds – According to some claims, the marigolds are basically the work horses of the garden. Just like sunflower, they are easy to grow right from seed and tend to produce a number of blooms especially from spring to frost. However, choosing the right marigold can be a bit puzzling with lots of varieties available out there. As far as I know, marigold now comes in four common types, including African, French, Triploid, and Signet. Each of these varieties has their own characteristics, thus it is important to select carefully which variety will fit to your soil type, and which one will make your garden more attractive and lively. Definitely, choosing the best marigold is a matter of personal taste.

    Geraniums – This is but another easy to grow annual that will yield more flowers in your garden. Of the many choices available, geraniums are by the most popular in the garden. Millions of flower gardens in the whole world have cultivated this plant knowing that they are very easy to grow and are so great for the amateurs and veterans alike. It is interesting to know that geraniums change from annuals and perennials. In warmer countries, it is treated as perennials for the reason that they live for more than one growing season. And, just like the other flowers, the geraniums bloom from spring to frost.
