Tropical Flowers
When you send tropical flowers to your loved one, you are saying that you want the extraordinary and want the recipient to have the very best. You can never go wrong with a message like that. "Tropical flowers often have unique shapes and come in extremely vivid colors," floral designer Debra Williams-Rich of Vince's Agnes Flower Shop in Maryland, USA, explains. Expensive Beauties "A sender of tropical flowers is someone who emphasizes value over price," Williams-Rich says of the unfortunate fact that tropical flowers tend to be more expensive than their non-tropical counterparts. And the high price tag is often true when you are living in the US or Canada where flowers fond of warmer climates are extremely rare. Most of the expenses can be attributed to shipping. "When you're shipping flowers from Hawaii, South America, and some parts of Europe, you have to pay a lot of money for freight," Williams-Rich cautions. This is no wonder, since tropical flowers typically weigh more and are larger than more commonly available flowers. Moreover, even with such high price tags, these rare, foreign-born beauties last days longer than their less expensive counterparts. Tropical flowers are very durable. Used to climate where the sun can be quite brutal, tropical flowers do not easily wilt. Neither do they immediately shed their petals or look droopy after getting banged up a little. Now, once your order of tropical flowers has arrived, you will need to arrange them. They are not like roses which are fine on their own - as single stems or bundled together with a rubber band. For the best presentation, choose your selection under the advice of a florist. Another option is to order one of those professionally arranged tropical flowers for a slightly higher price than ordinary. These are viable alternatives, as opposed to handling them on your own, although you always have that option, especially if you have some concept of how to arrange flowers to enhance their natural beauty. "It's definitely worth the money," Williams-Rich says. The presentation of your flowers will distinguish them from less astute blossoms. Another great thing about tropical flowers is that they are generally available year round. They also have long shelf life and, thus, will be remembered a lot longer than inexpensive substitutes. Here are a few safe picks for you: Flower Dendrobium Orchid This flower is native to Hawaii and Thailand although some varieties grow in the US. The price per stem is around $3-$5. Live is 5-7 days, but if you get those with a Cymbidium, it could last up to 21 days. Flower Anthurium A native of Hawaii, the Flower Anthurium may also grow in some parts of South and Central America. Priced slightly higher than the dendrobium at $4.50-$7.50, it has shelf life of up to 14 days, which makes it worth the extra bucks. |
