Flower Drying
When picking the kinds of blossom that you would want for flower drying, choose those that are extra bright as well as those with flawless leaves. If you are using fresh flowers from your garden, select them in broad daylight. You can as well go to the nearest flower shop and remember that they must be fresh and not in the stage of wilting. You may be choosing the cheapest but with entirely poor quality and even at that instance, it will already disrupt the process that you are about to embark. Flowers for drying should also be limited to those that do not contain any diseases, extra moisture or insects. Once you have the materials in your grasp, 'get ready at once.' Flower drying will work particularly well for blossoms that are not as huge as the hibiscus which grows to about 14 centimeters big. First thing to do is to take all of the leaves except for one just right next to the bundle of petals. Assemble it in a miniature foliage as you gather the stems that are strongly tied with string, wire or bands. Tighten it well every two to three days. Do not be surprised if it will shrink since it is really part of the whole process. Suspend the clusters upside down then place it in a dark room where there is also much air circulation. Checking it every now and then is also one of the things to follow. It usually takes two to four weeks to completely maintain the blossoms. See to it that it will not become overly brittle because it should remain a little bit flexible when done. Chemical application is another manner of flower drying. This method uses silica gel which permits the blossoms to be ventilated. You may buy this chemical in hobby shops and craft stores. When choosing such, select those with similar dimensions. The steps are basically the same with the first. The difference is that the silica gel is used. Please follow the instructions on the bottle's label on how to heat and apply the silica gel. |
