    Different Job Opportunities In Horticulture Career

    Whenever you go outside of your house, for sure you will come across some form of horticulture. Horticulture is the art and science of growing and cultivating different garden plants, vegetables, fruits, ornamental plants and flowers. There are people who study horticulture only to create a beautiful garden and there are some who make it as their source of livelihood. On the other hand, some people are into horticulture career.

    The science of horticulture allows individuals to be involved in a lot of different areas associated with plants. Horticulture is divided into several classes namely floriculture, landscape horticulture, olericulture, pomology, postharvest physiology and arboriculture. All of these classes are considered opportunities for a horticulture career that can be very rewarding.

    Below is some information on horticulture career depending on the class:

    - Floriculture - This class basically involves both cultivation and selling of flowers. If you consider this line of horticulture career, you may either works as a florist, flower supply manager or pollination specialist.

    - Landscape horticulture - This class involves cultivation, selling and preservation of landscape and garden plants. Some job opportunities if you make this a horticulture career include working as a landscape architect or a landscape designer.

    - Olericulture - This area in horticulture includes the cultivation and selling of vegetables. Some of the job opportunities include working as a farm specialist, field expert and representative or as a food processor.

    - Pomology - This horticulture are deals with the cultivation and selling of fruits. The job opportunities are pretty much similar with the jobs found in olericulture. The only thing is that it focuses on fruits.

    - Postharvest physiology - This is the last among the areas in horticulture that deals with the maintenance of food quality and prevention of horticultural crop spoilage. Job opportunities in this area are related to storage, conservation and preservation of both vegetables and fruits.

    Crash courses as well as certificates in the different areas of horticulture are being offered by some universities and colleges. Having a certificate to show can give you credibility and greater chances of getting hired. Horticulture career can be financially rewarding. The potential income of a horticulturist, depending on the location and the type of job, ranges from $4,000 to $8,500 a month. If you work as an apprentice for a horticulturist, the pay ranges from $11 to $22 an hour.
