    The industry in horticulture is one of the leading industries in the United States that throws in billions of dollars to the economy per year. It has always been a very complex industry because it involves the farming, processing and marketing of different garden plants, flowers, fruits, vegetables and ornamental plants.

    There are several different classes in horticulture and they are the following:

    - Pomology - This area in horticulture deals with the cultivation, manufacture and marketing of fruits.

    - Olericulture - This area in horticulture deals cultivation, manufacture, storage and marketing of vegetables.

    - Floriculture - This area in horticulture deals cultivation, manufacture, breeding, designing and selling of floral plants.

    - Landscape Horticulture - This area in horticulture deals with manufacture, marketing, installation and maintenance of landscape plants like ground covers, lawns, trees and perennial plants.

    Careers in horticulture include venturing in businesses like plant growth centers, greenhouses, plant nurseries, vineyards, golf courses, farms, real estate establishments and flower shops. There are a lot of available careers in horticulture for people who are interested with plants. Below are different careers in horticulture:

    - Greenhouse Employee - Working as a greenhouse employee is a very popular choice among the different careers in horticulture. The employee works indoors growing vegetables, fruits and flowers in cooled or heated greenhouse. It includes nurturing seasonal vegetables as well as different potted and bedding plants.

    - Nursery Employee - A nursery employee cultivates seedlings, landscape plants, shrubs and different trees. Most of the work is performed outdoors because it is considered a manual effort. Some jobs require lifting heavy plants and use of different tools. You have a competitive edge if you have a degree or certificate in agriculture or horticulture.

    - Park Employee - Among the different careers in horticulture being a park employee is probably one of the most diverse. A park employee performs a lot of duties needed for the preservation of a park. His duties may include nurturing of trees, plants, flowers, lawns and shrubs that composes the area. Other jobs include trimming the grass, mowing the lawn, trimming the tree branches, shrubs as well as pest control.

    If you are the type of person who loves plants, nature and enjoys being outdoors then these careers in horticulture will suit you. If you have a college degree or certificate in agriculture or horticulture, you can work for government agencies such as the United States Department of Agriculture.
