    The History Behind Garden Wind Chimes

    Garden wind chimes first got their start from being patterned after Chinese musical instruments. These instruments have similar sounds to the garden wind chimes that we enjoy so much today. With some simple movements, both of these items can produce some wonderful tones.

    Originally, wind chimes were made from small metal bells. These served as a type of accompaniment in ancient China's religious ceremonies. The bells were also used as a form of decoration in the temples and pagodas throughout Asia.

    The Materials Used In Garden Wind Chimes

    Regardless as to whether you want to move these garden wind chimes yourself or hang them where the wind can play them for you, you should know that different materials can be used in making these garden wind chimes. Of course, you can also purchase them from a local department store. They are available in bamboo, metal and glass.

    If you purchase bamboo wind chimes there will be between 6 and 8 hollow tubes or rods that are anchored to a "roof" and arranged as layers or mobiles. The bamboo can then be covered with varnish for added protection and style.

    Various shapes and colors of glass can also be used. This will look very beautiful whenever the sunlight shines through it, reflecting various colors.
