Unique Wind Chimes Offer Curious Creations

For many people any items hung that blow in the wind and make a noise is called a wind chime. While they idea behind wind chimes is make a pleasant, music-like sound, the thoughts of designing their own chimes has led to the creating of some interesting and unique wind chimes, that loosely fall into the category. Many unique wind chimes are designed with objects reflecting a person's interest, hobby or occupation and create some curious shapes as well as some unique sounds.

Plastic, glass and metal have been used to create some strange and unique wind chimes and the glass has been used in shapes of circle, squares, triangles and many others. While plastic, thick and thin typically provides more of a clicking sound when struck by any type of center ball, the thicker the plastic the louder the click. Even paper has been used to create unique wind chimes with some shapes made of thick wire with paper inserts to be more for show than the sounds they make.

Some of the more unique wind chimes are made out of mechanics' tools or carpenters' tools are essentially to make noise, but the clarity of the sounds comes nowhere close to being musical as one might expect from wind chimes.

Similar Design In All Unique Wind Chimes

Regardless of the materials used, the design of unique wind chimes is similar with noise makers hung from a circle or square object and a ball or circle of hard material hanging from the exact center. The individual items hanging are made to be barely in contact with the center ball or slightly away from it. On the bottom of the center ball is another string, with a flat piece of metal, wood or plastic designed to be moved by the wind.

For some the idea of unique wind chimes is simply to have one item strike against others when the wind blows, leading to the creation of bell-like devices, called wind chimes. Envision a pyramid of metal or wood hanging from a central point with another piece, typically of the same material hanging inside. A wind catcher extends below the pyramid and moves the center piece to strike the inside of the larger pyramid when the wind causes it to move.

This type of unique wind chimes may resemble marker buoys associated with nautical navigation and are common in seaside communities. The only limit to the available designed of unique wind chimes is the imagination of the person who makes them.
